Turn your weakness into your greatest strength.

If we study some of the greats of all time, we will see a common thread woven throughout their stories of success. Most of these winners have overcome extreme failures and weaknesses to be where they are today. How do we do the same? I have included 10 ways to turn your weakness into your greatest strength.

Here are a few ways to identify weakness. A weakness is something that has an ability to hold you back from your fullest potential. A weakness might be something that you, others, or circumstance has decided that you are not able to do or do well enough. You don’t have much confidence in this area in your life. You avoid engaging in this activity or thing because you feel inadequate in it.

1. Recognize your weakness and embrace the idea that you have this weakness. Own it and acknowledge it so that you can dispel of it. Facing your weakness helps bring you clarity and freedom from it.


2. Resolve to conquer the weakness. Don’t let your weakness conquer you. For example, I have always been a very private person. It was hard for me to open up and do anything publicly especially something like speaking or writing. When I realized that this was holding me back from my fullest potential, I resolved to go beyond my expectations no matter how uncomfortable it made me feel.

3. Build resolve and confidence around engaging in the activity that you feel weak in. Confidence can be gained with every experience. Don’t give up on your weakness until you turn this weakness into a strength.


4. Find a way to give back to others using your weakness. Or teach others how to overcome the weakness. By giving back, this takes your focus off yourself and your weakness and helps you grow by helping others which will ultimately help you. This puts you in the power seat instead of the dis-empowered seat waiting for someone to help you.


5. Drop your limitations and the stereotypes you placed around the weakness. Figure out why you considered it was a weakness in the first place. What conditions created this perception that controls your expectation around this subject.

6. Consider using on your weakness the same tools you used to excel at the things you thrive in. You are sure to get results here because these tools you have already tested and you have proof that they work.


7. Embrace change. Do what might seem uncomfortable for you to overcome your weakness. Make changes within and without yourself. This could mean a change in your belief system, or perception of yourself that helps you overcome the weakness. Or change in habits or something you are doing externally in relation to the weakness.


8. Remove the uncomfortable feeling of failure that you have around this area of weakness in your life. Treat it as if it is just something to do on your to-do list. Remove any feelings of fear, bias, or reserve you might have so you can move without fear in relation to the weakness.


9. Look for solutions to improve your weakness and turn it into greatness. There is a solution to every problem. You just have to look at it from all angles and seek answers.


10. Reward yourself when you have made gains in the area of overcoming your weakness. The more wins you have concerning overcoming your weakness the more victory you have in that area of your life.
