Finding security during times of uncertainty is like finding a needle in a haystack. Keeping a sense of control over your life can seem nearly impossible during a crisis. In times of challenge we often second guess our judgement on where to go and what to do. These 10 simple guidelines will help. A life crisis can be anything from custody battle, death of a loved one, or COV 19 pandemic.
1. Give it the eagle eye. I like to call this viewing from a bird’s perch. Take yourself outside of the circumstance and look at it from a new angle. This will change your perspective and give you better insight on how to handle the situation. Create your plan of action from there. If possible, remove yourself entirely from the situation to get more clarity. Find the wins in the crisis. What positives can you can take away from the situation?
2. Focus. Where is your focus going during a crisis? Is it looking to the outcome you want? Or is it sucked into the drama of the situation. It is easy to allow external sources to pull us in every direction. Especially during the COV-19 crisis. If we are ingesting fear-based media, and other dramas, this will just create more stress. Do not let the external direct your inner well being. Stress is often the underlying initiator to many illnesses. Focus on what you can do and what is going right.
3. Prepare. Make preparation to handle situation. Stay knowledgeable of your position during the crisis. Falling into despair over the crisis will not serve you. Isaiah 40:29. Go toward the outcome you want from a place of strength and peace. Do not let anyone influence your better judgement. Seek guidance from your heart. Do your own research. Seek advice that would expand your vantage point. A good example would be getting a second opinion at the Dr’s office before a surgery. Take action on the path that will serve you best.
4. Move fast. Sometimes you have to move faster than the obstacle or opponent in your way. Have a plan in mind as you accelerate. If you can get out ahead of the chaos to a more stable position, then you will have a sense of control over the situation. In all seasons of life there will be bumps in the road that we have not planned for. Moving quickly can help you .
5. Gratitude. Make a list of what has worked for you so far and give thanks. I learned that even though it may seem like you are losing battles on a smaller scale, winning the war is what really matters. Focus on winning the war and be grateful for each battle that you did or didn’t win. Define what winning the war for you looks like. Don’t give your energy to the losses. Bless them and be grateful but keep your focus on winning the war.
6. Use the tools you have. All of us are equipped to handle any situation, we just need to open our toolboxes and use them. Corinthians 10:13. Always be on the lookout for new tools to add to your toolbox. A tool can be anything from charm to make friends or the ability to bake a cupcake. Use the gifts you have been given to work a situation to your advantage. A little bit of awareness can turn the tides in your favor. If you have lost your job, take up a new hobby. Read. Research other ways to give back. These are just a few ways to enhance your toolbox.
7. Circle the wagons. Rally your support group. Times of crisis can bring us closer to our friends, colleagues, families. This is a time to connect and be of support to others especially if others are also in crisis. Be good to your family and tribe. Be authentic. Vulnerable. Invest in them. Build those relationships. Ask for help and support or advice. Just be careful who you take advice from if they don’t have your best interest at heart. A good example might be lawyer who knows nothing about building relationships within your family and has only financial interest in mind. You will ultimately loose out on relationships from their advice.
8. Grow Yourself. This may be a time for you to stretch your capacity past its normal limits. Let no crisis goes to waste. Find opportunities to grow within the situation. Move to a new location where you can flourish. Remove things that are toxic for you or things holding you back keeping you in a small place. Become educated. Look for the lessons in the situation that will expand you.
9. Call on a higher power. Hand the situation over to God. When we give issues over Him, He works things out on our behalf. God knows the heart and will deal accordingly. Any in-authenticity on your part will block your ability to move in the right direction and get the results you want. Revelation 2:23. When you are standing in a place of righteousness and with expectancy for a miracle, God will move mountains to come to your aid.
10. Be at Peace. Come to terms with the crisis no matter what what happens. Know you gave it your all. Take time to relax and take good care of yourself. I always say, "If you are unsure about the unknown, create your own known". ~ Sarah Dean
